Who is involved in the project?
Ministry of Disabled People - Whaikaha
Ministry of Disabled People - Whaikaha is a ministry that works with communities and Māori to improve the lives of disabled New Zealanders. The ministry has several key responsibilities:
- advising government agencies on disability matters
- building stronger connections between disability groups and government
- tracking New Zealand's progress on disability rights commitments. This includes the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the New Zealand Disability Strategy.
Supported Decision-Making Advisory Group
A special advisory group was formed to help develop this online resource about supported decision-making. This group brought together:
- Whaikaha staff
- other government agencies
- non-government organisations
- disabled people and tāngata whaikaha Māori (Māori disabled people)
- family and whānau .
The advisory group used their personal experience and professional expertise to guide the development of this resource. The aim is that this resource will be useful for:
- families and whānau
- carers
- service providers
